We sold the house is 1997, and, since we hadn't had enough punishment yet, we were soon building another deck.  To see pictures of it, please CLICK HERE.
One of two stairways into the yard.  The "columns" to either side have planters in them, and since this is the north side of the house, we filled them with impatiens.

We also built planters around the bottom of the deck instead of using lattice work.  To see a picture of what they look like, please

A Few Deck Ideas
We started building this deck in the month of January, which was unusually mild that year.  The locust tree you see in the picture was incorporated into the plan.
After the deck was framed, we started putting down the deck planking, starting with a square piece of  12" x 12" in the center.

Bob designed the seat around the locust tree.  If you use an idea like this, be sure to allow ample space for growth of the tree!
